Backpacks for Kids
Christ Episcopal Church began providing weekend food packs to children in 2012 as a partnership with Loaves & Fishes, local churches, and local elementary schools. Participating churches are assigned a local school and monthly schedule for this backpack ministry. Christ Church provides backpacks for kids of East Albemarle Elementary School on the third Friday of each month.
Participating students from East Albemarle Elementary enrolled with parental permission leave school on Friday afternoon with a weekend food pack. There is enough food in the pack to cover breakfast and lunch for that child during the weekend hours when other food options may be scarce.
Since fall of 2014, 40 EAES students receive these important food packs to supplement their food needs during the weekend hours each week. Growing demand for these emergency food initiatives continues into the 2014-15 school year.
Meeting the weekly nutritional needs of East Albemarle students can't be accomplished without your help. We collect non-perishable foods, including:
40 green beans: single serving / easy open
40 corn: single serving / easy open
40 carrots: single serving / easy open
40 peas: single serving / easy open
40 peaches: single serving / easy open
40 pears: single serving / easy open
40 apple sauce: - cups single serving / easy open
40 raisins: (sm. box) single serving
40 Chef B. Ravioli single serving / easy open
40 mini wieners: single serving / easy open
40 Chef B. spaghetti/meatballs: single serving /easy
40 pork & beans: single serving / easy open
40 peanut butter: single serving / easy open
80 breakfast bars: *2 per bag
80 Instant Oatmeal packs: *2 per bag
